Promote and sell your book yourself and keep the lion’s share of the profits!
So can you really promote and sell your book yourself?
You’ve all heard the horror stories of hundreds of thousands of dollars poured down the drain for publicity and promotion campaigns that failed to get the sales numbers you and your publisher expected.
What went wrong?
How could you have miscalculated the results of that ad campaign, the press conference or book signing party?
Surely you sent out enough advance publicity. Surely you notified the media in time…
Possibly it wasn’t your fault after all, but a sign of the times. With over 400,000 books published in 2007 according a recent New York Times article, how in the world can you or anyone expect to break the bank or even break into the news unless you've already had at least one best-selling book--or unless you've built your name in another field of endeavor and the book is just the icing on the cake?
Anything is possible, but instead of waiting for Santa Claus to show up on the Fourth of July, why not promote and sell your book yourself—and experience the satisfaction of building a loyal readership one step at a time, possibly one reader at a time.
How is this done?
- Build your own user friendly low cost website with a shopping cart, and sell your own book.
- Self-publish your book and get it set up for sale at the major online bookstores.
- Create free blogs with the many social networking spots.
- Join online forums.
- Write articles and post them for free distribution.
- In your local community, give free talks wherever you can,and let your book travel with you. Sell it wherever you can. Give away short excerpts, either printed out, or on line as ebooks.
- Convert your book into an ebook and sell it both ways.
- Learn everything there is to know about writing, marketing and selling ebooks.
- Set up booths at community fairs and flea markets or any other type of festival or event where people are selling their wares. Don’t be shy!
Those are just a few ideas for starters.
Have fun searching every nook and cranny of your community looking for places where you can promote yourself as a writer and speak and sell your book.
Scour the internet for marketing and promotion information. Participate in low-cost teleconferences.
Focus on going out to find your readers rather than waiting for them to find you.
Look at things the way you want them to be, and then make them happen!
